Terry McAuliffe Holds Double Digit Lead in SUSA Poll

by: kyleblankenship

Wed May 20, 2009 at 20:00:12 PM EDT

Today's SUSA poll is as follows:

Margin of Sampling Error for this question = ± 4.5%

If the Democratic Primary for Virginia Governor were today, who would you vote for? (candidate names rotated) Creigh Deeds? Terry McAuliffe? Or Brian Moran?

26% Deeds
37% McAuliffe
22% Moran
14% Other / Undecided

Margin of Sampling Error for this question = ± 2.4%

Regardless of what you told us about the June 9th primary, thinking ahead now to the GENERAL election in November... If the only two names on the ballot for Governor of Virginia were Republican Bob McDonnell and ... Democrat Creigh Deeds, who would you vote for?

46% McDonnell (R)
40% Deeds (D)
15% Undecided

Margin of Sampling Error for this question = ± 2.4%

What if the only two names on the November ballot were ... Bob McDonnell and Democrat Terry McAuliffe?

46% McDonnell (R)
40% McAuliffe (D)
13% Undecided

Margin of Sampling Error for this question = ± 2.4%

What if it was Bob McDonnell against Democrat Brian Moran?

47% McDonnell (R)
37% Moran (D)
16% Undecided

Inside the Numbers; Republicans for Moran?

by: kyleblankenship

Crossposted at http://bluevablog.blogspot.com...

In a post on raisingmoran.com, "Ruth" claims the following:

Republicans have the opportunity in the open Democratic primary to cast their votes for the weakest of the three candidates

Interesting comment, and there's a lot of truth to that. The recent PPP poll also included who the Republicans are supporting in this year's June 9 Democratic primary:

McAuliffe: 8%
Deeds: 8%
Moran: 39%

In fact, Moran's support is stronger amongst Republicans (39%) than among Democrats (22%). You can find this information in the recently released PPP Poll, on page 5. According to the logic of Ruth's post, either Republicans believe that Moran is not the progressive that he claims to be or he is the weakest candidate amongst the Democrats.
