(this is worth highlighting. It looks like an increasing number of papers are grasping that Republicans are now nothing but negative. This makes that point nicely. - promoted by teacherken)
The Roanoke Times today ran an editorial cartoon regarding Rep. Perriello's clean energy vote:
It's up to the netroots and good progressives across the Commonwealth to step up and douse those witch-hunting flames.

Howard Dean has a new book coming out, outlining his thoughts and arguments for comprehensive healthcare reform. Esquire sat down with him for an interview, and his comments are absolutely spot on:
ESQ: Speaking of the Obama plan, you're even stronger than he has been lately in support of the public plan. You say that without it, it's not reform.
HD: It's not. It's a waste of time. Don't pretend you're going to do health-insurance reform unless you're really going to change the system. The discussions in the Senate have not been about changing the system.
ESQ: They seem to be worried about preserving the status quo.
HD: Washington is the most conservative town in America. Its culture is the most resistant to change except a few religious cults.
ESQ: [Laughter]
HD: It's true! It's absolutely true.

The Senate Heatlh, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, already the winner for best-named legislative committee ever, today released an updated version of the Senate healthcare reform. Key take-aways: public option is back, small businesses are protected, 97% of Americans get covered, and the price tag is half the CBO estimates for the first draft. Sounds like a winner on all fronts. Sitting at a solid 60, time to step up to the plate and get this thing through ASAP.

The American Clean Energy and Security Act just passed the House, by a vote of 219-212. I am sure others will have lengthier thoughts, as do I, but I wanted to post now and say thank you to Reps. Perriello, Connolly, Scott, and Moran for voting for it, and an ENORMOUS thank you to Rep. Boucher for essentially saving the whole shootin' match. I'm disappointed Rep. Nye succumbed to the pressure from the energy lobby's distortion machine.
If the robocalls that went out to the Fifth District are any indication, a lot of Congressmen got very nasty phone calls about this piece of legislation. Take two minutes to call yours and say thank you for their hard work. I also put in calls to the office of the Majority Whip and the Majority Leader saying the same.
