Catherine Crabill

First Shannon web ad -

by: teacherken

Tue Jul 28, 2009 at 12:25:56 PM EDT

uses video of 99th HOD wingnut candidate Catherine Crabill to go after Cooch:

Ryan Nobles of Channel 12 notes that Republicans are reluctant to go after Crabill because the Tea Partiers are among the few in the base who currently are motivated, but that Crabill was not someone they sought.  They had no one else to run against Al Pollard.  But she is on the Republican ticket, which makes her fair game in any statewide Republican race.

Of Tea Parties and Virginia Politicians

by: teacherken

Fri Jul 17, 2009 at 16:59:04 PM EDT

The extreme language of Catherine Crabill is now being used to challenge other Republican candidates. Crabill made her remarks about resorting to the bullet box at a Tea Party.  Another Republican candidate speaking at Tea Parties in Virginia has been the Republican nominee for Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, who had spoken at two Tea Party events on July 4, in Roanoke and Charlottesville.

Steve Shannon, the Democratic candidate for Attorney General, has suddenly become very proactive in his campaigning, perhaps as a result of the recent hire of Mike Henry, one of the most experienced Virginia political operatives, as his campaign manager.

Today Shannon had a press conference call, and issued a press release, the contents of which are below the fold.

More nuttiness from Catherine Crabill

by: teacherken

Thu Jul 16, 2009 at 20:28:36 PM EDT

(NOTE - this is an ongoing news story.  I had not posted the video earlier because the Crabill campaign had argued that the snip was out of context.  It is not.  I have examined the entire 30+ minutes of the video.  And it is consistent with the kinds of other extreme remarks from Crabill, to which I refer in the piece.  The video is now at the top of the front page at Daily Kos, and is getting wide national distribution.  Because of the news-worthiness, I am putting it up to the top of the front page. - promoted by teacherken)

the following video is extracted from taping done by a Democratic tracker.  There is no editing in the portion offered.  The content of the message is in conformity with some of Crabill's other statements, including on her website.  Any Republican who is not willing to denounce this kind of statement is admitting they do not believe in the democratic process.

Republicans Nominate Catherine Crabill in 99th House District

by: Chris Guy

Sat May 16, 2009 at 22:34:49 PM EDT

(The issue of the statements by Pollard's opponent should extend far beyond the race in the 99th.  Not only should Wittman be asked on the record if he agrees, methinks we should demand answers of McDonnell, Bolling, the eventual AG nominee (probably Cuccinelli), and every candidate in a competitive delegate race.  Thanks to Chris for postingt this. - promoted by teacherken)

On Saturday, blogger Timothy Watson was on hand as the 99th House District Republicans held a convention to officially nominate someone to oppose Del. Albert Pollard (D-99) this November. Watson tweeted the following:

It's offical: An OKC Truther is the nominee in the 99th.

For those that don't know: Catherine Crabill, GOP nominee in the 99th House District, believes that the federal government murdered 168 people at Oklahoma City in 1995, and not Timothy McVeigh. She stands by her position, and will tell that to anyone who asks...

Saturday is D-Day in the Northern Neck

by: Chris Guy

Mon May 11, 2009 at 12:50:59 PM EDT

This Saturday at the Ruritan Pavilion in Lively, Del. Albert Pollard, local Democrats, and candidates for statewide office will be enjoying each others company at the River Country Democratic Rally and Chili Challenge.

Meanwhile, in Montross, the 99th District Republican Committee will hold a Legislative District Convention to decide who, or what, will be on the ballot this November to oppose Pollard. Rumor has it.... the Northern Neck Republicans are going to decide between A) presumptive nominee Catherine Crabill, a woman who believes that the government murdered hundreds of Americans at the Oklahoma City federal building in 1995, or B) nobody (despite the fact that 99th District GOP Chair Allen Webb, who already lost once to Pollard, promised that he would run again this year if no one else was available).

Any of these scenarios will likely result in Del. Pollard easily winning re-election. The question for Republicans in the 99th is: Do they want their image tarnished, possibly beyond repair, and make this into a national story? Or do they acknowledge the fact that this isn't their year and focus on other races?

What is there to decide?!

Democracy can't survive unless there's a loyal opposition. But that opposition has to be credible. Conspiracy theorists and terrorist sympathizers have no place in a major American political party.

"I see no scenario where Catherine would not be our nominee."

by: Chris Guy

Thu Apr 16, 2009 at 13:22:54 PM EDT

(It is important, per Sun Tzu, to know your enemy.  While not quite as bad as the Lousiana Republicans nominating David Duke for statewide office, someone like this exposes the wingnut side of the Republican party.

- promoted by teacherken)

Following the withdrawl of Lee Ann Washington, Republican 99th District Chairman Allen Webb just told the Northern Neck News, "I see no scenario where Catherine would not be our nominee."

We know that Catherine Crabill was a member of a militia and blamed the government, not Timothy McVeigh, for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. But looking at her "campaign website" (which is really just a blog with a single post), it now appears that she makes no attempt to hide her extremism.

GOP House Candidate Believes Govt. Bombed Oklahoma City

by: Chris Guy

Wed Apr 15, 2009 at 11:02:47 AM EDT

One of the two Republicans seeking the Republican nomination in the 99th HD, Catherine Crabill, admitted she thinks that the government was responsible for the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City, and not fellow militia member Timothy McVeigh.

Tim Watson at I'm Surrounded by Idiots discovered these quotes from an April 1995 article in The Washington Times:

Citizen militia groups in Montana, Florida and New Mexico say they condemn the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City and charge that the federal government, not anyone in their movement, was likely responsible.

"If any militia group is truly responsible for the murderous bombing in Oklahoma City, then I say, 'Hangin's too good for 'em,' " said Catherine Crabill of Aragon, N.M., who belongs to a group called New Mexico Citizens Action Association.

But Mrs. Crabill said it's her belief "this heinous act of violence was the work of our government," which will "use it as an excuse to aggressively attack the growing militia movement across the country."
