Get 'Er Done With a Public Option. Gavin Newsome Did. Why Cannot Harry Reid?

It's broken record time.  And I won't stop until we win this fight against special interests.  Things have changed little since I posted on the subject a week ago.  Distraction predominates.  The media is abuzz with tales of Mark Sanford's escapade and pitiful talk of "soul mates" (as if his romps had anything to do with "soul mates)." In addition, media outlets give up-to-the-minute updates on Michael Jackson, even though his very sad demise was last week.  Time is not of the essence on the Michael Jackson story, but it is on health care. You would think that no one is threatening to flush health care reform into the bowels of the Senate.  We don't need specials on MSNBC on "the will," as MSNBC is giving us (instead of Rachel Maddow) as I write this.

With Friends Like These: Ben and the Blue Dogs

by: KathyinBlacksburg

In a rather gratuitous muscle flexing, Sen. Ben Nelson (D? NE) recently has reached new lows.  The sad thing is that he is not alone.  He and his fellow Blue Dogs (including Max Baucus)are struttin' and posing and acting for all the world like the peacocks that they are.   (Note, hereafter I will call them peacocks.) With friends like these...

The irony is that these folks do not present a Third Way at all, but rather just more of the same-old BS lyrics we've heard over and over ("second verse, same as the first").  Since 1980 (29 years ago), we've had only eight years with a Democrat.  Since 1951 (56 years), we've had only 20 years of Democratic administrations.  It's nearly a 2 to 1 ratio for Republican v. Democratic years in the presidency.  It goes without saying that the eight most recent years were under Republican-dominated White House.  The House turned Democratic and the Senate barely so in 2006.  Even then, with a few exceptions, Dems mostly supported the Bush agenda.  But overall, we've had one failed administration, with its failed ideology, year after year.  The last thing we need is more of same.  And so it's baffling why 1) everything possibly wrong with our country is blamed on Dems (even by these Dems), and 2) DLC Dems think they must tack "right,"  when, certainly, the failure of the "right" should be apparent to them at long last.  But no...

Let's take a look at a few of Nelsons' recent ploys. First Ben threatens to scuttle President Obama's SCOTUS appointment. But he doesn't even know who it is yet!  Nelson apparently doesn't want "activist judges," parroting the propagandistic talking points of the "right" wing still-disgruntled Bork fans. Said Nelson:

This Week in Health: Health Care Hypocrisy (Time to Call Your Favorite Blue Dogs Again)

Update
Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana)has declared single payer off the table.

Congress is at "work" on the budget for FY 2010 beginning in October.  At least some members in Congress are at work trying to bring Americans the health care insurance they want and deserve.  Others have dug their ideological heels in.  Meanwhile, as do many economists, President Barack Obama sees health care reform as critical to our economy, and as essential to the budget this year.  With health care costs skyrocketing along with the ranks of the uninsured, we have no choice.

Yet, on cue, the whiners and obstructionists are out in force, trying to prevent anything from being done.  Ourfuture.org today presented a number of quotes from Whiners, Inc.  You know the guys who have health insurance but don't want you to.  You'll want to take a look at the absurdity of many of them.

As OurFuture.org notes:

Whiner-in-chief Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH)copmplained, "that would be the Chicago approach to governing: Strong-arm it through...You're talking about the exact opposite of bipartisan.  You're talking about running over the minority, putting them in cement and throwing them into the Chicago River."
