|Let me give Mike Huckabee a reality check. My proximity to the Beltway doesn't mean that I "already have it made." I'm a Community College student. And like many of my classmates, I'm not what you would picture as the average college student. I don't live with my parents; I live with my wife. She's an elementary school teacher in Fairfax County.
We're coping with the difficulties of paying for college as well as paying the bills -- all while dealing with the reality that the cash-strapped school system won't be giving cost of living increases in pay, and will also be cutting staff. My part-time job is not enough to make up for this.
So I don't appreciate people like Mike Huckabee telling me that I don't know what it's like to struggle. Here in Fairfax County, we pay more for everything but we don't always earn more.
And as many times as I drive on that magical Beltway he speaks of, which confers prosperity on everyone who lives near it, I am somehow no better off than the folks in Tazewell County, or the Richmond area, or Hampton Roads. I'm tired of Republicans flying into Virginia and trying to pit us against each other.
Virginians, let's UNITE AGAINST THE SEPARATIST REPUBLICANS! They're using the same old strategy of divide and conquer, creating resentment people in different parts of the state. Let's work to continue on the path of Democratic leadership in the Commonwealth!
