HR Defend and Declare Tea Party Set for 26 June

by: Dan Sullivan

Thu Apr 23, 2009 at 10:02:27 AM EDT

Apparently embarrassed to admit association with the event, an anonymous sponsor has stepped up to pay the use fees for Chesapeake City Park in late June. A festive atmosphere is planned, with music, food, facilities (30 porta-johns are a requirement for the event), and a "Best Tea Partier" Contest. There will also be a worship & prayer service for those who wish to intercede for our nation. Interestingly, these fine Americans, part of the Virginia Tea Coalition, rely on a Canadian web support service (Response Magic, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) for their communications backbone.
Dan Sullivan :: HR Defend and Declare Tea Party Set for 26 June
Planned for a Friday, the group wanted a Sunday, or Flag Day or the Fourth of July. Their options were limited by funding constraints (less than several thousand dollars ), size (a venue that can handle 3,000 or more), and location (central to HR). The group's goal is to open the event up to as many participants as possible and have expressed regret that "this date will not work out for some, especially those who celebrate the Sabbath from Friday sundown until Saturday sundown." Further, recognizing that many media commentators remarked that it was WORKING Americans who took time off a regular workday to attend the initial Tea Parties, they have rationalized that maybe a weekday sends a stronger message.

Reaching out for donations, the mailing explained that the last event ran $1500, but this one will cost much more. Estimates run $8-10,000. "We are in the process of filing the zillion papers and fees the state and cities require." Another E-mail was promised for tomorrow about boycotting the local media "which as a whole did a miserable job not covering a significant news story. We RESIST!"

So, if they don't figure out which one(s) of those members of the mail group is/are me, there may be more information forthcoming. We should wait with baited breath for an explanation of how boycotting the media will help get their message across to the citizens of Hampton Roads.

Is this an isolated event?
Want to bet there will be plenty of similar tea bagger parties around the Fourth of July and/or Flag Day across the country?

There really is serious money spurring on this "rebellion," though every effort is made to pretend it is a spontaneous uprising by asking for donations. Why do you suppose you were on the mailing list, Dan? Was it because you belong to some veterans' organization? I'm curious to know how their mailing list was generated.

Often required to sign in at events I observe...
the organizations are usually gracious enough to share their Kool-Aid.

"Teabag parties"
will, certainly, be common on the 4th of July, given that ice tea is part and parcel of the celebrations, like ice cream or fireworks, and that nobody brews tea from loose leaf anymore. Whether or not the good folk will be able to spin it as a part of their "movement" is a different story.

They seemed to have been pretty diffuse/unfocused/disorganised even on the Tax Day; you think they'll be able to herd the hordes of people, hell-bent on enjoying themselves, into some sort of unified protest? I seriously doubt it.

TSK, TSK - such attitudes!
Embarrassed?  Wow, that comment speaks volumes.  Maybe this sponsor was humble in their motives and simply did it out of generosity, wanting to remain anonymous, as to avoid the attention it might garner.  HMM...  And 8-10 G's - where did you pull those figures from?

'Kool-aid' interesting term you use there, as you could have opted out of the emails at any time, but chose not to.  Who is drinking what?

And please note that the organizers set the time of this event from 3-8 pm for the 'WORKING' Americans.
