Apparently embarrassed to admit association with the event, an anonymous sponsor has stepped up to pay the use fees for Chesapeake City Park in late June. A festive atmosphere is planned, with music, food, facilities (30 porta-johns are a requirement for the event), and a "Best Tea Partier" Contest. There will also be a worship & prayer service for those who wish to intercede for our nation. Interestingly, these fine Americans, part of the Virginia Tea Coalition, rely on a Canadian web support service (Response Magic, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) for their communications backbone. |
| Dan Sullivan :: HR Defend and Declare Tea Party Set for 26 June |
| Planned for a Friday, the group wanted a Sunday, or Flag Day or the Fourth of July. Their options were limited by funding constraints (less than several thousand dollars ), size (a venue that can handle 3,000 or more), and location (central to HR). The group's goal is to open the event up to as many participants as possible and have expressed regret that "this date will not work out for some, especially those who celebrate the Sabbath from Friday sundown until Saturday sundown." Further, recognizing that many media commentators remarked that it was WORKING Americans who took time off a regular workday to attend the initial Tea Parties, they have rationalized that maybe a weekday sends a stronger message.
Reaching out for donations, the mailing explained that the last event ran $1500, but this one will cost much more. Estimates run $8-10,000. "We are in the process of filing the zillion papers and fees the state and cities require." Another E-mail was promised for tomorrow about boycotting the local media "which as a whole did a miserable job not covering a significant news story. We RESIST!"
So, if they don't figure out which one(s) of those members of the mail group is/are me, there may be more information forthcoming. We should wait with baited breath for an explanation of how boycotting the media will help get their message across to the citizens of Hampton Roads. |
