Bill Bolling has been kind enough to let us know precisely how he plans to attack the Dems on energy, and since he calls the approach the "McDonnell-Bolling" plan, perhaps we know the complete Republic approach. It appears at Virginia Tomorrow in this letter to Bob Holworth, featured on the front page. I strongly suggest people take the few minutes to read it. At times he gets almost snarky in his remarks, such as the end of this paragraph: While McDonnell/Bolling does support developing Virginia's off shore energy resources; we are also for green energy projects, such as wind, solar and biofuels. We also support reasonable conservation programs, as long as they are based on sound science and not political science.

He is prone to offering sweeping statement and digs at his opponents. In the sweeping statement category (in which you can see easily disprovable statements) we read Let's recap. Our opponents oppose nuclear, they oppose clean coal, they oppose off shore and their position on wind is precarious. That really leaves them with just solar, biofuels and conservation. We all know that solar and biofuels are not yet cost effective and conservation alone cannot solve our energy problem. So in the final analysis they have no realistic energy plan at all.
And in the category of "digs," he says of his Democratic opponents, I seriously doubt that they would support many wind projects when the opposition starts complaining about the visual impact of turbines and their impact on avian wildlife.
His conclusion makes clear one line of attack the Republicans intend to use: ...if you want to help America achieve a greater degree of energy security and you want to help Virginia achieve a greater degree of economic security you vote for McDonnell/Bolling. If you want to continue a policy that promotes dependence on foreign sources of energy and let's someone else become the nation's leader in energy you vote for our opponents.
Holsworth takes comments at his blog. You might want to go over and offer some. At a minimum, Democratic campaigns for statewide office should take notice, since Bolling has been kind enough to telegraph this line of attack. |
