I've noted a number of other reasons why Ken Cuccinelli is an embarrassment.
Some of them included:
• He'll fight for the same agenda he "always has" (i.e., extremist.)
• He opposes equal rights for all Virginia's citizens.
• He seeks to impose his theocratic views on the rest of us.
• He won't enforce laws he disagrees with.
• He'll end stem cell research.
• He denies climate change and the science of global warming.
• His first priority is to sue the federal government against imposing any new emissions. laws or other laws encroaching on Virginia.
• He'll "fight with Washington."
• He'll protect the sovereignty of Virginia under the 10th Amendment.?!?!
Here are some more.
• The Washington Post said of Ken Cuccinelli, "As attorney general, he would be an embarrassment to Virginia." Read more here. The Virginia Pilot concurs that Cuccinelli is an embarrassment. I'll write a separate diary about this later today or first thing tomorrow.
• Cuccinelli voted against requiring background checks at gun shows, allowing even convicted felons to buy guns. The bill added a definition of "firearms show vendor" and required that a criminal history record information check be performed on the prospective transferee before the vendor may transfer firearms at a gun show. Under current law, only licensed dealers must obtain such a check. The bill also added a definition of "promoter" and requires that the promoter of a gun show provide vendors with access to licensed dealers who will conduct the criminal background check. SB 1257, third reading, 2/4/09.
• During a Republican Attorney General debate, Cuccinelli said: "I will not defend what I, in my judgment, deem to be an unconstitutional law." He added, "there's no guarantee, right off the bat, that I'm going to defend every law in Virginia. If I determine it not to be Constitutional, I will not defend it." (Republican Attorney General debate, 4/9/09. Watch him here.
• He opposed requiring clergy to report child abuse. Cuccinelli tried to limit the bill's scope to clergy who failed to report child abuse by their peers. Cuccinelli unsuccessfully tried to restrict a 2004 bill to reporting of suspected abuse by other clergy, not by family members or other individuals. The bill's sponsor argued that most denominations and religious groups supported the bill, with the exception of the Virginia Assembly of Independent Baptists.
• Cuccinelli was the only senator to oppose strengthening a domestic violence bill. Cuccinelli voted against helping police determine the primary aggressor in mandatory arrests. The bill took out the word "primary" and added language explaining how police determined the "predominant physical aggressor." SB 314, third reading, 1/29/04; Associated Press, 1/28/04, 1/29/04; SB 550, vote passage, 2/3/04.
