Think Progress is reporting that at the Richmond Times-Dispatch "public square" forum yesterday Eric Cantor responded to a woman's question about how to obtain urgent surgery for her uninsured relative's stomach tumors by suggesting the relative look to charity or use "existing government programs".

Does this mean that Mr. Cantor understands that the government should provide a viable public option for people like this innocent, suffering woman? Does the fact that she held insurance for years and probably paid premiums all that time without ever using it count for anything? Pshaww! No, of course not. Today he restated his party's position that Obama should "scrap" the public option. Let some charitable person come forward with the necessary funds! It's the Dickensian way. |
